In a yard across the alley from our back yard is a beautiful apple tree. Below it is a split rail fence with some beautiful red grapes along it. Or at least there used to be. Absentee landlords that don’t seem to care too much about hundred year old trees and beautification of property have allowed English ivy to grow rampant. The tree is all but dead. You cannot even see the fence rails anymore. What is sad is that this isn’t the only tree becoming covered with ivy in our neighborhood. There is a majestic giant sequoia a block away that now has ivy growing about half way up. Sigh.
